Meet Mark Jawahir, the passionate owner of Caribbean Comfort, a culinary haven tucked away in the picturesque town of Skowhegan, ME. Originally hailing from Brooklyn, NYC, Mark's journey to the quaint charm of Skowhegan began in 2020 when he, alongside his wife and their beloved dog, made the move for his wife's career in medicine at a rural hospital.
What started as a planned five-year stint in Maine took an unexpected turn as Mark and his wife fell in love with the tight-knit community, the abundance of year-round activities, the dog-loving culture, and, of course, the irresistible seafood that graced their table. As the charms of Maine worked their magic, the couple decided to make it their permanent home.
Mark's culinary journey traces back to his roots in Guyana, South America. In the heart of his childhood home, he observed his mother crafting traditional Caribbean dishes, igniting a passion for the art of cooking. It wasn't until his early 20s that Mark discovered his own knack for the culinary world and found joy in preparing meals, a skill that was honed as he took on the responsibility of cooking dinner every night for his wife during her medical training.
The fusion of Mark's traditional upbringing and the diverse culinary experiences shared with his wife became the foundation of his unique cooking style. Drawing inspiration from the culinary landscapes of Guyana, Trinidad, and Jamaica, the menu at Caribbean Comfort reflects the authentic flavors of their upbringing. Some dishes pay homage to traditional roots, while others boast a modern twist, showcasing Mark's creative flair.
Join Mark on a gastronomic adventure at Caribbean Comfort, where every dish tells a story of heritage, love, and a commitment to delivering an unforgettable Caribbean culinary experience.
